Activity/serviceUCARE (Urology Cancer Research and Education) is an independent charity committed to improving the treatment and care of cancer patients through research and education. Working in our community, is more important than ever. Helping people to understand how to reduce their cancer risks; helping to reduce health inequalities and raise awareness for early diagnosis is more important than ever, as is finding new ways and collaborations for UCARE to do this. We run awareness days and sessions, which as their name suggests are days that bring attention to important signs and symptoms of cancer and improving wellness and health. They engage, open discussion and hopefully leave people better informed. In the increasing shift to prevention and early detection and the information and advice on lifestyle is very important. We also try to reach out to those groups who find it harder to access this information. We have a wide range of information and support on our website and exciting ideas for promoting and providing more which we're happy to talk about further. We helpOur aim is support people in our community who may be more at risk, to live longer healthier lives by helping them to make positive lifestyle choices and identifying and treating illness at an early stage by earlier detection and earlier reassurance, by being positive and not reactive. In particular, reaching those people that may be a little harder to reach. More than four in 10 cases of cancer could be prevented by changes to lifestyle. And thousands more lives could be saved every year if the disease was detected and treated at an earlier stage. But of course it's not that simple. There are many reasons why people might not make a healthy lifestyle change or go to the doctor to get something checked out - including a lack of awareness, not knowing where to seek support, and fatalistic attitudes towards cancer. And one of the biggest challenges we face is tackling inequalities. People from different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds can have very different knowledge and attitudes about cancer and what a healthy lifestyle means SafeguardingWe have safeguarding policies in place.
